Just Launched: Philanthropy Associates Redesign

PA sitePhilanthropy Associates wanted a redesign and the ability to easily update their site without having to always depend on a webmaster. Getting Sites Built redesigned the site, giving it a fresh look and a header that pops off the page. For ease of maintenance and scalability, we built the site on the WordPress foundation and provided basic training on how to update the site.

Some of the subtle details include sidebar graphic elements that change, depending on which page of the site you are viewing. The email links are encoded to avoid spambots from harvesting them, resulting in less spam. FeedBurner handles the RSS feed so that blog subscriber results are easily tracked. Likewise, Google Analytics is installed so that basic site stats are only a click away.

New York Skywatch Site Launched

New York Skywatch is a WordPress powered website built and customized by Getting Sites Built. In addition to WordPress, a Gallery was also installed which will make it very easy for the site owner to upload photos.

The site was built in less than two weeks. It features nice touches like a FeedBurner RSS feed so that subscriber stats can easily be monitored. There is the Podpress plugin which will allow for easy and elegant podcasting abilities. And, as with all WordPress sites installed by Getting Sites Built, it has a ‘Reports’ plugin which allows the site administrator to quickly see a snapshot of their Google Analytics, revealing important information at a glance about site visitors.

Please visit the site and subscribe to the New York Skywatch RSS feed.

Thanks to Nick Day for the photo and to Aimee for throwing down such a fabulous partay!

For the site backbone, we decided on WordPress. We build many sites on WordPress since it provides 90% of what most people need. Once our client’s discover the world of WordPress, they get excited at how much time they’ll save updating their site.

One can subscribe to the RSS feed or get updates via email. For this solution, we turned to FeedBurner. I like FeedBurner since it gives my clients easy to read statistics on their subscribers.

There are lots of under the hood modifications going on that differ from a standard WordPress install. That’s what we’re all about at Getting Sites Built. Customizing the solution to meet your needs. In this case, The Asia Foundation had very specific requirements that we were able to implement.

Please visit the new In Asia site and take a look around. We’re very proud of the site and proud to help support the cause that The Asia Foundation is making in this world.

Just One Thing

Things are happening around here. Motion, potion, and devotion. This abstract tapestry that envelops life as I know it causes me to attack! attack! attack! those things that lie before me.

Wiggling in a hoop. Taking the potion. Expressing my devotion. It’s all just one thing. The one thing that does it. For me.

Mindfulness, breathe, let it go

I’m under attack! Negativity didn’t just creep in, it smashed down my door and is trying to beat the crap outta me.

Fortunately, I’ve got good friends and good tools at my disposal to thwart the attack and even come out stronger than before.

Keep on breathing. Be mindful. Take action.

No thoughtStreams

On my other blog, Donovan’s thoughtStream, I enter my thoughts in a loose format called a thoughtStream. Quite different from a blog, eh? A blog tends to be structured, with a title and something important to say. A kind of masterpiece in a post if you will.

Bullshit.

I much prefer the thoughtStream style of blogging. Let ‘er rip. Like Meatloaf in his heyday.

Thanks to my friend Nick, I now have a iBook G4 laptop and migrated all my apps and data over effortlessly. Expect one app. OPML Editor. Jeez, the one app I try to evangelize more than any other and it doesn’t make it through the Apple Migration. I’ve been searching the net for 45 minutes trying to figure out how to reinstall OPML Editor now that my hard drive has a different name. I give up.

So, this post to my WordPress site comes to you out of frustration. The devil is in the fucking details. It’s time to get OPML Editor on board or I’m gone. Sorry, Dave. I just don’t want to spend 45 minutes trying to figure out how to update my blog.
