LinkedIn Maps

LinkedIn has a new feature called LinkedIn Maps. It produces a beautiful map of your professional network. I admit that I don’t know what the colors represent or what kind of ‘professional’ value I will get out of this map. I do know that it’s pleasing to the eye.

Eye Tracking Best Practices and Mistakes to Avoid

Some of my colleagues at AnswerLab will be presenting the topic, ‘Eye Tracking Best Practices and Mistakes to Avoid‘ at the AnswerLab office on March 15, 2011.

Running a micro instance of EC2

I really want to run my own server full-time. So, I terminated the small instance of my EC2 and created a micro instance. Much cheaper. I’ll keep it going full-time. Can’t really build on something if it’s not running constantly.

My micro instance is here. Not much to see right now but the fact that you can click on the link and get a page dished up means that it is real.

What’s next? I’m going to map river.donovanwatts.com for easy access. Then I’m going to selectively pull in some feeds for my River2 aggregator and go from there.

At the very least, I’ll have easy access to my favorite RSS feeds.

In time, I intend to create several rivers of news. Not sure if I am supposed to create multiple instances or if I can do this with one micro instance.

Still diggin’.

For those of you following along and asking how this blog post is any different from the one I created earlier, the answer is that here I’m talking about a micro instance. In the other post, I refer to a small instance. One tiny change that makes a huge difference in cost.

Walking in El Cerrito

Today, my family and I went for a walk. We took our dog too. Our destination was the bank, to make a deposit. But the destination wasn’t the purpose. The journey was really the goal.

As new parents, it usually takes us about an hour or two to get everything together in order to go for a walk. I’m not kidding. It’s so hard to get the baby ready, make sure we’ve got water for the dog, gather up our things, and get out the door. But we’re learning.

The weather was fantastic and the scenery, seductive. We love living in El Cerrito. Along the way we saw beautiful gardens, children playing, and dogs being walked.

Michelle made us peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Half-way to our destination, we sat on a bench and enjoyed a quiet moment.

We were gone for about 3 1/2 hours. It was bright and sunny out when we left, dark when we returned. Our legs hurt a bit but our souls are bountiful.
