The Coral Reef Alliance web site has been redesigned

The results of the CORAL web site redesign are impressive. Congratulations to CORAL and the design team at Digipop.

From 2000 to 2005, I was the CORAL webmaster. I created and maintained the entire site, along with a half dozen in house Mac servers that I donated to the organization when they hired me. I had to take my servers with me! I had just moved from Hawaii to California, leaving my small web hosting business behind. What to do with my servers? Donate them to CORAL, and put all my knowledge and energy into transforming CORAL’s internet presence. And that I did.

The new design has many of the elements that I was responsible for…. like the beautiful header graphic and the ocean blue theme. Well, actually Bryan Bell created the theme, I was just the man who made things like that happen much of the time by hiring out people to help build the site. The gallery is still there. The online databases are there. And so is all the content. Just rewrapped in a nice new look.

It’s nice to see the RSS feed link right up front too. CORAL was one of the first sites on the web to provide an RSS feed. We even had our own Manila site with multiple news authors posting coral reef related news back in 2001.

The design team definitely did a good job with freshening up the style, tool. The fonts look great, the design is light with lots of nice white space.

Again, kudos to Digipop and I wish CORAL all the best. They are a wonderful organization doing important work to keep the world’s coral reefs alive and healthy.
